Sul Ross took a 40-31 halftime lead and converted to an 82-68 non-conference win over U.T.P.B. Monday night at the Gallego Center.
Sid Hooper was Sully’s go-to man as he dropped in 19 points for the night including 4 assists and 3 steals. Rick Herrera contributed 18 points to the victory. Hooper and Herrera hit 3 of 7 shots from long range while Herrera tallied an assist and 3 steals. Derric Workman totaled 10 points for the night rounding out Sully’s double digit department. Rockland Owens led at the boards with 7 rebounds.
As a team, the Lobos shot 48% from the floor (42% from 3-point distance), and made 63% of its shots from the charity stripe.
The win gives Sul Ross an 8-1 season mark. The Lobos will take their 6-1 conference record to Richardson this Thursday for action against U.T. Dallas as the first part of a 5 game road series. The Lobos will then make a trip to U.T. Tyler for conference action on Saturday.
