Hamline 68, St. Olaf 64

NORTHFIELD — The St. Olaf men's basketball team was defeated Monday night 68-64 by Hamline University in Skoglund Center.
After keeping the game within reach throughout the second half, the Oles found themselves down five with less than two minutes to play, but committed their 14th turnover of the game on an inbounds pass following a Hamline basket.
The Oles held Hamline on the possession but were stifled by the Piper defense on the other end and could not chip away the deficit.
Jon Bain (So.) had a chance to cut the lead to three from the line with less than 30 seconds left, but could only convert one freethrow preserving the two-possession advantage for the Pipers.
The Oles were once again plagued by shooting woes, finishing at only 41.5 percent for the game compared with 49.1 percent by Hamline.
Jon Butala (So.) stood alone in double figures for St. Olaf with 21 points, with the closest Ole behind him scoring only six.
Greg Koba had 21 points to lead the Pipers to their first MIAC win of 2004-05.
The Ole defensive stand looked strong, forcing 19 turnovers, but because of poor shooting could not turn them into points.
