Trinity (7-4) led 48-35 at the half, and featured three players scoring in double figures. The Tigers shot 46.2% from the field for the game, as well as 46.2% from three-point range. Howard Payne was limited to just 37.7% shooting, including 32.1% in the second half.
Senior guard Jason Morris turned in a game-high 19 points for the Tigers, also collecting six rebounds and a career-best six steals in the game. Morris also led the team with four assists, and shot 8-14 from the field and 2-5 from three-point range. With his six steals, Morris moves into first place on Trinity's all-time career steals list. He also scored his 1,200th point in the game, and is currently 12th on the school's all-time scoring list.
Ross Burt hit 5-8 from the field (4-7 from beyond the arc) to finish with 14 points off the bench, while Sean Devins had 10 points and six boards to go with his four blocks. Peter Murray and Chad Stroberg chipped in with nine points each, and Murray also added seven rebounds and three assists. Stroberg hit 3-4 from long range and collected three steals.
Sean Wheeler was the only Howard Payne player in double figures, scoring 13 points off the bench to lead his team. Bryan Temple added nine, while Andrew Baker finished with eight, as the Yellow Jacket bench scored 38 of the team's 61 points.
Trinity will travel to the University of Dallas for a game on Wednesday, followed by a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend against Hendrix and Rhodes on Friday and Sunday.
