St. John Fisher 92, Rochester Tech 51

PITTSFORD, NY -- — The St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team captured its third straight Empire 8 Conference title and the fourth in the last five years, as Fisher defeated visiting Rochester Institute of Technology 91-52 today.
The Cardinals, now 27-0 and ranked No. 4 nationally, join Division I Illinois as the only two undefeated teams in all of college basketball. Fisher will make its 11th appearance in the last 14 years in the NCAA Division III Championship. The Cardinals will find out later tonight who and when they will play.
Fisher jumped out to a 46-23 lead at intermission, as the Cardinals shot 17-of-28 (60.7%) from the floor, including 9-for-16 (56.3%) from 3-point range. Fisher’s hot-shooting carried over to the second half, as the Cardinals knocked 18 shots from the floor, including five more 3-pointers to finish with 14 for the game, tying a Fisher single-game record for made 3-pointers.
R.I.T (19-8), who was led by Fran Snyder’s (Bishop Timon/Buffalo) 10 points, shot just 26.7% from the floor, including 3-for-26 (11.5%) from 3-point range.
Nick Bennett (Binghamton/Binghamton) led Fisher with 17 points, while shooting 5-for-8 from 3-point range. Bennett also finished with seven rebounds and three assists.
Jeff Sidney (Herkimer/Herkimer) and Sean O’Brien (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) each scored 12 points. O’Brien also chalked up eight assists and six boards.
Mike McGee (Batavia Notre Dame/Batavia) scored nine points, while shooting 3-for-3 from 3-point range.
Pete Gillett (Perry/Perry) and Isaiah Smalt (Campbell-Savona/Savona) each scored eight points, while Dan Mueller (Waterloo/Waterloo) added six points and six assists.
Dan McSweeney (Marcellus/Marcellus) and Kris Warren (St. Francis Borgia Regional/Washington, MO) each scored four points.
