Penn State-Behrend 52, Pitt-Greensburg 49

GREENSBURG, PA — The Penn State Behrend Men's Basketball team defeated the host University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, 52-49, in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Finals. The Lions won their second AMCC Championship in school history; their last being in the 1997-98 season. Penn State Behrend improved to 19-7 overall, while the Bobcats fell to 17-10.

After Cam Mascara (Charleroi/Belle Vernon) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to get Penn State Behrend within ten points (31-21) at halftime, the Lions cut into Pitt-Greensburg's lead and eventually took over the lead, 38-37, with 8:53 to go. For the rest of the half, the two teams kept it close as there were four lead changes and the largest lead being only three points.

With the Lions leading 46-44 at the 3:34 mark, Pitt-Greensburg's Ryan Moye (Washington/Washington) made a three-pointer to give the Bobcats the lead with 2:25 to go. However, Jared Clough (N. Andover, MA/Bridgton Academy) made a lay-up twenty seconds later to give Behrend the lead back. Over the next minute and a half, there was no scoring until Clint Mullen (Latrobe/Latrobe) hit a jumper to give the Bobcats a 49-48 lead.

With 13 seconds remaining, Kevin Buczynski (Erie/Villa Maria) made a basket to give Behrend the lead for good. Mascara then made two free throws to stretch the Lion lead to three points. Duke Cooper (Reston, VA/South Lakes/Robert Morris Univ.) tried to tie the game with a three-pointer, but the shot missed, and Penn State Behrend held on for the victory.

For Penn State Behrend, Mascara had a team-high 16 points, while Buczynski scored 10.

For Pitt-Greensburg, Moye led the team with 16 points, while Cooper had 15. Mullen scored eight points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The Lions earned the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The bracket will be announced on Sunday night. The Bobcats will await word on a possible Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) postseason bid, which will be announced on Monday.
