GNAC Tournament Championship
Geoff Hensley scored a driving layup and sank a free throw with 52 seconds remaining to propel Norwich to a 69-60 win over Emerson in the GNAC Tournament Championship. Prior to Hensley's old-fashioned three-point play, the Lions (17-10) rattled off a 10-2 run to trail by two points. The Cadets (21-6) were able to hold on with six consecutive free throws by Jerrold Williams, Hensley and Tim Shedd. Emerson kept close for most of the game and trailed by only two at halftime, 30-28.
Shedd led all scorers with 23 points and was named as the tournament MVP. Dan Zinchuk topped Emerson with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
With the win, the Cadets locked up an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. The tournament seedings will be announced on Sunday night.
"It's the dance man, it's what every college player wants to do," said Shedd. "Division I, Division II, Division III, that's what you talk about, going to the dance. And now we've done it."
