The Choctaws will make their seventh straight appearance in the title game having reached the finals every season since the tournament started winning three times.
The Cowboys had a hard time scoring against the tough Mississippi College defense. HSU finished 13-47 from the field for a 27 percent shooting percentage.
MC led 27-21 heading into halftime but led 33-30 with 16:23 remaining in the game. A 15-5 run keyed by two Lonnie Vasguez three pointers gave MC a 48-35 lead. HSU would get no closer than eleven the rest of the way.
HSU was led by Calvin Nite's 19 points and five rebounds. Tann Kudrna scored seven and grabbed eight rebounds. No player scored in double figures for the Choctaws but ten different players scored. Vasguez was the high scorer finishing with nine points. Jimmy Johns and Jason Walker each scored eight and combined for eight assists.
HSU concluded its season with a 19-8 mark. MC will play UT-Dallas in the final, Sunday at 2 p.m.
