The Eagles’ Justin Kuhnau nailed six three-point baskets and tied teammate Greg Blaska for a game-high 18 points, as the duo led five Edgewood players scoring in double figures. Seth Cooper was two assists shy of his first career triple-double, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. David Michalkiewicz and Charlie Averkamp each added 11 points apiece.
Anthony Johnson shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and led the Falcons with 14 points. Adam Jones and Dave Lipanot each netted 13 points, followed by 11 points from Billy Bynum.
Edgewood, the top seed in the tournament, held its biggest lead of the contest with 3:17 remaining in the first half, when a Cooper jump shot gave the Eagles a 34-21 advantage. However, the Falcons responded with a 13-2 run to end the half and trailed Edgewood 36-34 at intermission.
Following four ties and four different lead changes early in the second half, the Eagles gradually built a 10-point lead after Michalkiewicz sank a pair of free throws with 2:43 remaining. Edgewood’s defense allowed just three Concordia field goals to rest of the way, as the Eagles held on to win its fourth conference tournament title.
It marks the second time Edgewood has advanced to the "Big Dance," and it is their first trip to the national tournament since 2002. Regional pairings for the NCAA Div. III Men’s Basketball Championships will announced late Sunday evening.
