The Bison (24-3) broke out to a 14-6 lead in the first 3:15 behind 10 points from the brother combination of Mike and Matt Drahos.
Bethany extended its lead to 24-8 three minutes later, but 22-13 W&J spurt over the next four minutes closed the Presidents (10-18) to within seven points (37-30) at the 9:27 mark.
Mike Drahos capped an 8-0 Bison run over the next three minutes with back-to-back lay-ups to push the BC advantage to 45-30 and Bethany went into halftime with a 55-39 lead.
Freshman guard Tyler Trutza (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) led W&J with 22 points at the half on 7-of-7 shooting (5-of-5 three-pointers). Matt Drahos had 19 at the half for Bethany before getting ejected.
Sophomore guard Jon Koch (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) hit a lay-up four minutes into the second half to pull W&J to within 59-50, but the Bison exploded for 13 of the next 17 points to take a commanding 72-54 lead with 10:53 remaining. W&J was not able to get closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
Mike Drahos led the Bison with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Matt Drahos added 19 points and five boards. The Bison shot 54 percent (33-of-61) for the game, including 62 percent in the first half.
Trutza led all scorers with 26 points in 9-of-12 shooting, while adding seven assists. Koch totaled 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting and sophomores forward Patrick Stewart (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) and guard Brandon Studer (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh Valley) chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
W&J finished with 48 percent shooting (28-of-58), including 12-of-21 from three-point range. The Presidents were out-rebounded by a 34-32 margin.
Washington & Jefferson concluded its season with a 10-18 overall record. The last time a Presidents’ squad racked up 10 wins or more was during the 1999-2000 season (10-13 overall).
