The 27-10 stretch from the 15:21 to 2:31 marks of the second frame overturned a 43-33 Kohawk lead and gave the home side a 60-53 margin it wouldn't lose. Junior forward Rance Cartmill turned in 17 points and five assists, while senior guard Jordan Atchison and junior center Nate Schmidt added 13 points each. Coe trimmed the margin back to one (60-59) in the closing moments before Cartmill and junior guard Jason Steege nailed four consecutive free throws in the final 29 seconds.
Head coach Dick Peth’s team (23-4) got out of the gate fast, leading 9-2 less than four minutes in. However, the three-point shooting of the Kohawks (14-13) turned the tide as freshman guard Brian Brungard, freshman guard Rob Hanna, freshman forward Kyle Kuenstling and sophomore guard Chris Krueger all hit long-range bombs to put Coe up 32-25 at the break. The visitors upped the ante to as much as 10 on the second half before the Knights pieced together their rally.
Brungard and Kuenstling finished with 11 each for Coe.
