And that play contained running the ball and field goal formations.
The Bison (23-3) used that type of offense, pushing the tired Thiel Tomcats legs down the gym floor and canning three-pointer after three-pointer to beat the school 126-86 to earn their spot in the PAC Tournament Championship.
The men scored 24 fast-break points and connected on 15-of-25 trifectas en route to their largest winning margin over Thiel this season. The 126 points was only eight shy of the team’s 134-point record, ironically set back in 1964 against Thiel.
For the game, New Salem, Pa. native Brandon Duncan scored 27 points off 7-of-8 three-point shooting. Twins Matt and Mike Drahos scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, in a game where 11 players notched point-totals.
Thiel - who earned their place in the game by defeating Westminster 110-107 in a typical track meet fashion - was led by Daryl Moore’s 30 points. PAC Freshman of the Year Joe Herrmann scored 18 points for the Tomcats (8-19).
The Bison men will face No. 3 seed Washington & Jefferson (10-17) in the PAC Championship Game Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hummel Field House. The Presidents escaped their road game with Grove City with a 69-57 victory over the No. 2 Wolverines.
