John Carroll 75, Wilmington 67

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Wilmington College Quakers, the eighth seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament, gave the host Blue Streaks of John Carroll all they could handle in a 75-67 loss on Tuesday evening.

David Guy scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field, becoming the 20th member of the 1,000-point club in the first half of the game, while Deon Short scored 15 and Eric Stirling chipped in 11.

The Quakers came out firing, taking a six-point lead five and a half minutes into the game before the Blue Streaks opened an 8-0 run, taking a two point lead. The lead switched hands numerous times in the half before the Quakers increased their lead to six heading into the locker room by a 41-35 count.

The Green and White held onto their lead for the first five and a half minutes of the second stanza before John Carroll briefly held the lead. The Quakers opened a 5-0 run to take back the lead as the two teams battled back and forth, with the Green and White taking a two-point, 59-57 lead with 9:03 to play in the game before the Blue Streaks went on a 10-0 run over a two-minute span in the second half, giving the hosts an eight point advantage. The Quakers chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit to two with 1:38 to play before the Blue Streaks ended the game on a 6-0 run.

Guy led the way with 23 points while Short and Stirling put in 15 and 11 respectively. Zach Broermann was just off of the double figure pace with nine. Stirling pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while Josh Rohrbacher dished out four assists and picked off four steals.

John Carroll was led by Brandon Mimes, who scored 20 points while Michael Grogan and Andrew Salata each scored 14 points off of the bench. Mimes and Peter Koch each pulled down seven rebounds while three players, Koch, Grogan and Salata each had three steals.

The loss ends the Quakers' season at 10-16 on the year while John Carroll advances to the semi-finals with a record of 21-4.

The 10 wins by the Quakers on the season is the first double-digit win season since 1999-00 and just the fourth in the past 16 years. The nine win improvement from last season is the largest since 1988-89's team improved 10 games.
