Mount Union 95, Capital 74

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mount Union College opened the game on a 24-9 run and never looked back on their way to a 95-74 win at Capital University Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.

Seventh-seeded Mount Union (14-12) nailed nine of its first 10 shots capped by a three-pointer by Brad Gerard to make it 24-9 with 13 minutes left in the first half. Capital (16-9) would then go scoreless for a seven minute span as Mount Union went on a 20-5 burst to take a 44-14 advantage with 4:13 left in the half. Mount Union ended the half hitting 64.3-percent (18-of-28) with six three-pointers and a 47-23 lead.

Capital got no closer than 21 points the rest of the way.

Mount Union had four players in double figures led by a game-high 24 points from Brett Hershberger

David Kalb scored a career-high 20 points and David Johnson were the lone Capital players in double figures.

Mount Union advances to face Baldwin-Wallace in the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m. at John Carroll. John Carroll and Muskingum meet at 8 p.m. in the other semifinal.
