Albright 81, Elizabethtown 65

READING, Pa — Albright drained a season-high 13 three point shots, led by six from junior Andy Winebrenner, on its way to an 81-65 win over Elizabethtown in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference tournament Wednesday night in the Bollman Center. The Lions will host Lebanon Valley Saturday night at 7:30 on the championship game.

Winebrenner led all scorers in the game with a career-high 20 points on 7-8 shooting from the floor, including 6-7 from three-point land. He was perfect in the first half, hitting all six of his shots, five of which came from beyond the arc, for 17 points. Albright trailed the Blue Jays 12-8 with 12:35 left in the half, but things were about to change. Winebrenner drained his first triple of the night to pull the Lions within one, a shot that sparked a 15-0 Albright run over the next five minutes. The run consisted of a free throw from sophomore Greg Conroy, two free throws from junior Trevor Deeter, and four three's from Winebrenner. Kyle Conrad kept Elizabethtown close with four straight points from the line, but back-to-back lay-ups from sophomore Lee Walter pushed the Albright lead to 13, 29-16, with 5:11 showing on the clock. Etown got back within single digits on consecutive three's from Conrad and Brian Schreiber to make the score 36-29 with 1:53 left before the break. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way, and Albright held a seven-point edge, 40-33, heading to the locker room for half-time.

Winebrenner's 17 lead all scorers at half-time. As a team Albright shot 54% from the field in the first 20 minutes, including 7-11 from three-point range. Etown, by contrast, shot just 34% from the floor in the half, 4-10 from three. Conrad led the Blue Jays with 14 points at half-time.

Schreiber opened the second half scoring with a three for Etown, but a Ben Gallagher free throw and a three from sophomore Matt Kieselowsky increased Albright's lead to eight, 44-36, two and a half minutes in. The three-time defending league champs were not about to roll over, however, going on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 46 with 15:15 left in the contest. Albright never allowed the visitors to retake the lead, however, running off eight straight points to lead 54-46 with just under 12 minutes remaining. After a bucket Andrew Flynn, Conroy nailed his second three of the half to put the Lions ahead by nine, 57-48. Etown got as close as six on two occasions, the last coming on Conrad's only bucket of the second half to make the score 59-53 at the midway point of the half. A lay-up from Deeter and Winebrenner's sixth triple of the evening got the Lion lead back into double figures, 64-53, and started an 11-2 run that saw the Lions stretch the lead to 15 on a Gallagher three with 7:11 left in the game. The lead ballooned to 17 with just over three minutes to play as senior Elu Lawrence hit a long three as the shot clock expired to give Albright a 78-61 lead and effectively seal the win for the Lions.

Winebrenner did more than just score in the game as he pulled down seven rebounds, handed out four assists, and blocked a shot in 25 minutes of play while not turning the ball over a single time. Deeter finished with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. Kieselowsky chipped in 11 points and had a game-high six assists for the Lions, who totaled a season-best 23 assists in the game. Conrad finished with 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Etown. Schreiber and Brian Goodwin each had eight for the Blue Jays, who also got four assists from Greg Adams.
