Rhode Island College 85, Southern Maine 65

PROVIDENCE, RI. — Second-seeded Rhode Island College advanced to the Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Final Four with a 85-65 win over seventh-seeded Southern Maine in first round action. It was the first LEC Tournament win for RIC since the ‘96-97 season. It is also the first trip to the LEC Final Four for the Anchormen in that same time span. RIC improves to 18-7 overall and has the most wins in a season since the ’95-96 club also won 18. USM falls to 9-17 on the season.
 
RIC will face third-seeded Plymouth State at tournament host and top seed Western Connecticut on Friday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m.
 
RIC had four players score in double figures, led by senior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) and freshman guard Davon Yarbrough (New Haven, CT) who each had 16 points. Sophomore guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) and junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) each had 15 points. In addition, Williams had five boards, four assists, one block and a steal. Senior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) grabbed a game-high ten rebounds to go along with his eight points and two blocks.
 
As a team, RIC was 10-for-18 from three-point land and was 25-for-30 from the free throw line.
 
USM freshman guard Josh Daniels (Seattle, WA) led the Huskies with 16 points, five boards and two steals. Senior forward Jason Levecque (Westbrook, ME) had 15 points and three rebounds. Senior forward Ryan Garland (Hermon, ME) had ten points and five boards.
