Katie Maguire scored a game-high 24 points as top seeded Buena Vista needed to rally from a 38-35 second half deficit to register the victory over eighth seeded Dubuque. The Beavers struggled from the field, making just 36 percent of their shots. It was the team's second-worst shooting performance of the season. Both teams were five of 21 (24 percent) from beyond the arc.
After trailing 31-25 at halftime, Dubuque went on a 13-4 spurt in the first five minutes of the second half to seize a three point advantage. Buena Vista had scored on consecutive possessions when Spartan guard Jessica Cox picked up her fourth personal foul and was forced to the bench. Buena Vista proceeded to piece together the decisive run.
Kristina Kapler personified Buena Vista's shooting woes. She had entered the game with the sixth highest field goal percentage in the nation. Kapler made just three of 14 shots. She did manage to score 11 points and grab 11 rebounds to tally a double-double.
Nikki Kayon led a balanced Dubuque scoring attack with 15 points. Courtney Musser added 12 points and seven rebounds. Cox and Taylor Foltz each registered 11 points in the losing effort. The Spartans shot 37 percent from the field.
The win was Buena Vista's 23rd in a row and 35th straight at home. The seventh-ranked Beavers are now 25-1. Dubuque ends its season at 8-17.
