The Quakers trailed 46-38 at halftime, and by as many as 17 in the second half before the Green and White fought their way back to win the game against the feisty Pioneers.
The Quakers started out strong, jumping out to a 5-0 lead 30-seconds into the game before the visitors fought back, taking an 8-7 lead with 15:29 to play in the half. The lead changed hands three times before Marietta used a 9-2 run to take a six-point lead that they would not give up until the waning moments of the game. Marietta's first-half lead grew to as many as 11 in the half before the Quakers closed to within eight at halftime.
In the second half the Pioener lead grew to as many as 17 with 14:49 to play before the Quakers started chipping away at the lead, closing to within single digits with 9:42 to play, before trailing by six with 3:49 left in the contest. The hosts then went on a 7-0 run, taking a one-point lead with 1:07 to play in the game on a Deon Short lay-up. The visitors answered with a lay-in by Matt Hines before the Quakers scored the last six points of the game, getting the go-ahead points from a Guy three-point basket, as the senior scored 21 of his game-high 37 points in the second half. The Green and White hit three-of-four free throws down the stretch to bring home the five-point win.
Guy led four Quakers in double figures, hitting 13-of-27 from the field and 8-of-11 from three-point range, while Short scored 16, Fred Harrison scored a career-high 13 and Josh Rohrbacher tied his season high with a dozen. Eric Stirling pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, as the Quakers out-rebounded the Pioneers 49-38 in the contest while Rohrbacher dished out a game-high six assists.
Marietta was led by Chad Sponseller, who scored 14 points, while Craig Stewart scored 13 and Matt Hines chipped in 10.
With the win, the Quakers improve to 10-15 overall and 6-12 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, a high-water mark in program history for OAC wins. Marietta ends their year at 3-22 overall and 1-17 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
The team's 10 wins is the first time since 1999-00 that the team has had double figure wins, and just the fourth time in the past 16 years. The 10 wins also marks a nine-game improvement in the win column from their 1-25 season a year ago.
The Quakers take the court on Wednesday, as the team travels to University Heights, Ohio to take on the 13th ranked (D3hoops.com) Blue Streaks of John Carroll University in the first game of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
