RIC trailed, 66-64, with 14 seconds left in the second half. RIC sophomore guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) hit a lay-up with to knot the game up at 66-66 and the two clubs headed to an extra session. The Anchormen shot 8-for-14 from the free throw line to pull away in overtime as they outscored the Owls, 13-4, to earn the win.
Williams and senior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) each scored a game-high 19 points. Williams added four assists, two rebounds and a steal. Daley chipped in with three boards, two steals and an assist. Junior guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) had 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) had nine points, ten rebounds and two steals.
KSC junior forward Sean Sullivan (Athol, MA) led the Owls with 17 points and five assists. Freshmen guards Matt Hickey (Mahopac, NY) and David Sontag (Mount Vernon, NH) had 12 and ten points, respectively. Junior forward Ben Maynard (Nobleboro, ME) had ten rebounds, five points and five blocks.
RIC’s 17 wins are the most for the program since the 1995-96 team went 18-9.
In upcoming action, RIC is the second seed in the upcoming Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament. RIC will host seventh-seeded Southern Maine on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
