The first half was back and forth with six lead changes. The Choctaws took a 40-36 lead into the break.
The second half also remained close until an MC 7-0 run midway through the half gave the Choctaws a 70-58 lead. MC led by as many as 14 but never fewer than eight the rest of the game.
Five players scored in double figures for the Choctaws with senior guard Jason Walker scoring a team high 16 points. Walker was 11-13 from the free throw line.
Also scoring in double figures for the Choctaws was Tyler Winford (14), Cedric Armstrong (12), Willie Poweres (10) and Jaszmine Eugene (10).
Texas-Tyler was led by Joe Henderson who finished with a game high 20 points. Brandon Weasby added 18 points with Ryan Salters and Patrick Branche each scoring 12.
Texas-Tyler also shot well from the floor finishing at 52 percent but only 44 percent in the second half. The Choctaws won the battle on the boards 29-23.
MC will host next weeks's ASC Tournament starting Friday, February 19.
