The Captains lead at the break, 41-29. CNU torched the nets in the first half, shooting 15-of-27 (56%) from the floor and 8-of-13 (62%) from behind the arc. CNU held the Monarchs to just 10-of-30 (33%) shooting, 2-of-13 (15%) on three's and 7-of-9 (78%) from the free throw line.
In the second half, the Captains out scored Methodist by just eight, 44-36, but still shot 15-of-32 (47%) from the field, 3-of-8 (38%) on three's and 11-of-14 (77%) from the charity stripe. MC finished the second stanza 13-of-31 (42%) from the floor, just 5-of-14 (36%) on three's and just 5-of-13 (39%) from the free throw line.
For the game, Methodist finished 23-of-61 (38%) from the floor, 7-of-27 (26%) on three's and 12-of-22 (55%) from the free throw line. CNU finished 30-of-59 (51%) from the field, 11-of-21 (52%) on three's and 11-of-21 (64%) from the charity stripe.
The Captains stiffled the Monarchs on defense, swtiching from a man-to-man, a 2-3 zone and a 1-3-1 zone defenses forcing Methodist into many bad shots, including 18 turnovers. CNU also helded Eugene Grant to zero points, the same person who went for 22 in the Monarchs win over CNU several weeks ago
MC was lead by Robert Lee's 21 points. Seth Thomas finished with 13 points and seven rebounds and Sam Porter added 10 points and six boards.
The Captains finished with six players in double figures. Jeremy Romeo led CNU with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 on three's. Roderic Carey finished with 16 points and five boards, Jordan Short finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, Steven Murrer contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds, Blake Brookman finished with 11 points and 12 assists and Korey Lewis had 10 points off the bench.
The Monarchs conference unbeaten streak ends at 10-games. MC is now 18-6 overall and 10-1 in USA South play. CNU improves to 17-7 overall and 7-4 in conference action and have no won four in a row and five of their last six games.
The Captains return to action tomorrow for their final regular season home game. It will be Senior Day as Greensboro comes into town for a 4 pm tip-off.
