Buena Vista 75, Wartburg 64

STORM LAKE, Iowa — The 10th ranked Buena Vista University men’s basketball team claimed revenge over 11th ranked Wartburg College and extended its home win streak to 12 games on Saturday afternoon in front of the largest home crowd of the season. The Beavers defeated the Knights by a 75-64 margin, ending the regular season on a 14-2 Iowa Conference mark and an overall season record of 22-3. The Knights, who were denied a perfect conference season, finished up regular season play with a 15-1 Iowa Conference record and an overall mark of 21-4.

Wartburg was the first to strike and would maintain the lead throughout much of the first half. However, the Beavers put together a 13-5 run with just under six minutes remaining in the half to claim a seven-point advantage at the half.

The Beavers controlled the lead for much of the second half, although Wartburg did make a couple of runs to steal the lead momentarily. With a little over six minutes left in the game, Eric Wiebers hit a three point basket that put the Beavers in the lead for good and on the path to claim the 75-64 win.

BVU's Michael Cameron led all scorers with 25 points, going 5-7 from behind the arc. In addition, Wiebers and Jordan Campbell scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, in the win.

Wartburg was paced by Jordan Atchinson who scored 17 points, while Nate Schmidt added 16 points in the loss for the Knights. Wartburg shot 22 of 51 (43 percent) from the floor but only six of 28 (21 percent) from three point range.

Buena Vista made 28 of 54 shots (52 percent) from the field, including nine of 19 (47 percent) from behind the arc. The Beavers forced 16 Knight turnovers.

Wartburg, which had already clinched the conference crown, will be the number one seed in next week's conference tournament. The Knights will host Simpson College on Tuesday. Buena Vista, the number two seed, will host Central College.
