New York University 86, Case Western Reserve 78

NEW YORK — The New York University men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with an 86-78 win over Case Western Reserve University in a University Athletic Association game on Friday, February 18, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Jeff Gilkerson, who led the way for NYU (14-9, 4-8) with a "double-double" of 22 points and 10 rebounds, moved into the #12 spot on the Violets' all-time scoring list with 1202 career points.

Following a first half that consisted of six lead changes and four ties, the Violets grabbed a 44-40 lead at the intermission.

NYU increased its lead to 11 points, 55-44, on Gilkerson's layup with 16:09 remaining. However, the Spartans (5-17, 1-10) countered with a 14-5 run and pulled within two, 60-58, on Jeremy Sallee's jumper with 11:21 left.

That was as close as Case would get, as NYU extended its lead to 13 points on three occasions down the stretch.

Bobby Serafin scored a career-high 15 points and added eight rebounds for the Violets. Jason Boone contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, while Jared Kildare (13) and Jimmy Janeczek (11) also scored in double figures. Janeczek also recorded a game-high six assists

Five players scored in double figures for the Spartans, who were led by Sallee's game-high 23 points.
