After trailing 39-37 at the break, the Cowboys came out and shot 75 percent in the second half – making 24 of 32 shots – en route to outscoring the Tornados 67-48 in the second frame. Calvin Nite led the Cowboys with 30 points. Zach Pickelman added 26 and Tanner Kudrna had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
HSU ran its offense to perfection against the undersized Tornados and had assists on 33 of the 38 baskets in the game. The Cowboys shot 63 percent from the game and 60 of the points came in the paint. The win was HSU’s fifth in a row, all of which came with the Cowboys trailing at halftime.
Keith Darden had a stellar night for the Tornados with 32 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. Three other Concordia players reached double figures.
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 18-6 overall and 16-5 in American Southwest Conference play. Concordia fell to 5-19 overall and 5-16 in league play. HSU hosts Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Mabee Complex.
