Fitchburg State 73, Massachusetts College 51

Fitchburg, MA — Graduate student Rashad Cope scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in his final home game as Fitchburg State knocked off visiting MCLA in MASCAC men’s basketball play Thursday evening. Classmates Jim Prignano (16 points), Mark Giusto (9 points, 3 assists), and Dan Largesse (6 points) also made key contributions in their final appearance at the Recreation Center.

Freshman Brian Torres also played well for Fitchburg State (8-16, 3-8 MASCAC) as he scored 10 points including bringing the crowd to its feet with a two-handed dunk late in the first half. The Falcons received a spark from Giusto, who helped the FSC jump out to a 39-30 lead at the half. Making just his second career start, Giusto has seen 19 of his 34 career points tallied in home games versus MCLA.

The Trailblazers (8-16, 0-111 MASCAC) were paced offensively by Robert Mitchell who registered 12 points and 7 rebounds. Adam Garner chipped in with 11 points for MCLA.

Both teams will close out their season on Saturday with Fitchburg State at Bridgewater at 7pm and MCLA traveling to Westfield State for a 3pm contest.
