Augsburg 65, St. John's 62

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Augsburg College went on a 7-0 run in the final 3:13 to defeat Saint John’s University 65-62 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Sexton Arena on the SJU campus in Collegeville, Minn.

The Auggies’ senior forward Lucas Olson-Patterson scored a three-point play with 2:18 remaining to take a 63-62 lead. The lead was the first for Augsburg since the 11:22 mark of the first half at 13-11. SJU’s biggest lead of the game came at 18:19 of the second half at 37-25. The Johnnies led 31-24 at intermission.

Augsburg was led by Olson-Patterson, the leading scorer in the MIAC, with 20 points. Junior forward Zeph Jones had 13 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Kevin Keto contributed 12 points. The Auggies shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the field and 4-of-14 from the three-point line. Augsburg made 11 free throws, compared to 10 for SJU.

SJU was led by junior post Paul Henrichs with 22 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore point guard Matt Ohme added 16 points. Sophomore post Craig Schafer was the third SJU player in double figures with 10 points and eight rebounds. The Johnnies shot 38.1 percent (24-of-63) from the field and 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from behind the three-point line. SJU won the rebound battle 41-31.

Augsburg improved to 9-15 overall and 7-12 in the MIAC, while SJU fell to 8-16 overall and 6-13 in the MIAC.
