Otterbein 79, Wilmington 51

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Wilmington Quakers dropped to 9-15 overall on the season with a 70-51 loss to the Cardinals of Otterbein College on Wednesday evening. The team, however, clinches the eighth spot in the OAC Tournament as Heidelberg, who is a game behind the Quakers, fell to John Carroll this evening.

Josh Rohrbacher and Fred Harrison each scored 10 points to lead the way in the loss.

The Quakers never led in the game, as the Cardinals jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first three and a half minutes. The Quakers closed to within two with a 9-2 run, but that would be as close as they would come, as the hosts opened an 8-0 run to take a 10 point lead that the Quakers cut to nine at 36-27 by halftime.

The Quakers trailed by nine with 18:03 to play in the game before the hosts opened a 9-0 run, taking the lead to double digits, keeping their foot on the gas pedal until the final minutes, as the Cardinals took their biggest lead at 79-51 with 49 seconds to play.

Rohrbacher and Harrison each scored 10 while Deon Short scored nine in the losing effort. Rohrbacher pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while Zach Broermann dished out three assists to pace the squad.

Four of the five starters for Otterbein reached double figures, as Scott Hadley scored a game-high 12 points while Tony Borghese scored 11 and Mark Church and Kevin King each added 10. Borghese dished out a game-high nine assists while Hadley pulled down seven rebounds to lead the team.

The Quakers fall to 5-12 in the OAC while Otterbein improves to 17-7 overall and 12-5 in league play.

The next game for the Quakers is on Saturday, February 19 as the team plays host to the Pioneers of Marietta College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. The game is community day, with all fans invited to the game free of charge.
