Maryville adjusted well to the Highlanders' run-and-gun style of offense and full-court pressure defense. The Saints broke MacMurray's defensive press well and finished with 58 points in the paint and 26 total assists. As a team, Maryville shot 36-of-72 (.500) from the floor and 28-of-35 (.800) from the charity stripe. The Saints also dominated on the boards by out-rebounding the Highlanders 62-36.
Klein, who had 13 points at halftime, finished with a career-high 27 points on 9-of-14 (.643) shooting from the floor and 9-of-11 (.818) from the free throw line. He also tallied seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks in the win.
Regan scored 17 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 10 assists for his first career triple-double. He hit 5-of-8 (.625) from the floor, 7-of-7 (1.000) from the charity stripe, and added five steals in 31 minutes on the floor.
Head coach Matt Rogers also received double digit scoring performances from three other players. Senior Marcus Henderson netted 16 points, dished out seven assists and grabbed seven rebounds, while senior Andrew Hulbert and junior Ben Hebl added 12 points a piece. Freshman Casey Holland, who had his first career start, chipped in with nine rebounds, seven points, two steals, one assist and one blocked shot.
Maryville held the Highlanders to just 36.8 percent shooting from the field and 21.6 percent from three-point range. MacMurray did not help their own cause, finishing 14-of-24 (.583) from the charity stripe.
The Highlanders were led by Rockie Robinson with 17 points, five steals and four rebounds. Renaldo McIntosh added 13 points and four boards, while Ryan Eberhart chipped in with 12 points.
Rogers and his squad will look to clinch a berth in the SLIAC Tournament with a win over Principia College (IL) this Saturday, February 19, in Moloney Arena. Tip-off is 3:00 pm.
