KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men’s basketball team (11-11, 5-6 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to CCIW-opponent Illinois Wesleyan University (17-4, 8-2 CCIW), 76-68, on Wednesday, February 16 at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. Carthage trailed by four points at halftime, 39-35, after the two teams exchanged leads several times in the first period. The Titans went up by six points, 48-42, at 16:58 before the Redmen took the lead, 50-48, at 12:30. The game was tied, 50-50, at 11:24 before Illinois Wesleyan took the lead for good, 53-50, at 9:37. Leading by one, 55-54, at 7:06, the Titans went on a 14-2 run to take a 13-point lead, 69-56, at 2:14. Carthage closed to within six, 72-66, with 35 seconds to play, but IWU went on to win by eight points, 76-68. The Titans shot 52 percent (24-46), while the Redmen shot 49 percent (23-47). Adam Dauksas scored a game-high 28 points for Illinois Wesleyan on eight-of-nine field goals and 12-of-13 from the free-throw line. Matt Arnold had 15 points. Zach Freeman had 11 points, and Chris Jones chipped in 10 points. Carthage’s Mike Hart, playing in place of Pat Kalamatas, who injured a hip in the game’s opening minutes, scored a career-high 23 points on eight-of-12 from the floor and seven-of-seven free throws. Kevin Menard had 13 points, and Kyle Jeffery added 10 points. Carthage plays host to conference-opponent Augustana College (Ill.) on Saturday, February 19 (7:30 p.m.) at the Carthage PEC.
