Worcester State 80, Bridgewater State 77

WORCESTER, Ma — The Worcester State College men’s basketball team kept their postseason hopes alive with a, 80-77, win on over the Bears of Bridgewater State College on Senior Night in Lancer Gymnasium on the campus of Worcester State College. The win improves the Lancers to 14-9 (6-5 MASCAC), while Bridgewater State falls to 13-10 (6-4 MASCAC).

The Lancers trailed at the break, 47-40, as both teams were scorching hot from the field. Worcester State shot 55% in the half, while the Bears were 56%. Freshman guard Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) led the way in the first half for Bridgewater State as he scored 12 points with all of them coming on three point shots. Senior Peter Santos (Fairhaven, MA) added 11 first half points. Worcester State was led by Jermaine Cannon (Dorchester, MA) with 10 points and Ralph Frazier (Carver, MA) who had 9 points.

Worcester State was able to take the lead in the game at, 63-62, with 11:20 remaining on a lay up by junior guard Tyson Drayton (Roxbury, MA) and after the game was tied several times, the Lancers took the lead for good, 72-70, on another Drayton score. After extending the lead to as much as six points, the Lancers were able to hold on down the stretch with a Ryan Hopkins (Oxford, MA) free throw giving the Lancers the final advantage.

Worcester State was led by Drayton with 21 points and 4 steals. Cannon finished with 16, Frazier with 13 and senior Tom Sullivan (Auburn, MA) added 12 points. Bridgewater State was paced by Santos with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Cuddihy finished with 13 points and Matt Badiali (Raynham, MA) finished with 11. Senior guard Brian Adamczyk (Chicopee, MA) had 9 assists.

Worcester State will finish out their regular season on Saturday when they travel to Salem State to take on the Vikings. Bridgewater State hosts Salem State on Thursday.
