Gordon 61, University of New England 50

BIDDEFORD, Maine — First-years Justin Kaufman (Redding, Conn.) and Jon Marstaller (Naples, Maine) combined for 38 points to help the Gordon College Fighting Scots to a 61-50 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game at the Campus Center.

With his team trailing 39-37, Kaufman buried one of his four 3-pointers to give Gordon the lead (40-39) for good at the 9:15 mark. Kaufman's trey began a 10-0 run for the Fighting Scots, who attempted just 17 field goals in the second half, but converted 18 of 23 free throw attempts (78.3 percent) in the frame.

Kaufman was 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and 6-for-7 at the free throw line on his way to a game-high 20 points. Marstaller had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. He made all six of his free throw tries.

First-year forward Isaac Stickney (Rumford, Maine) was the lone UNE player in double figures with 10 points. The Nor'easters converted 46.9 percent (23 of 49) of their field goal attempts--compared to 39.1 percent (18 of 46) for Gordon--but were plagued by 24 turnovers.
