Babson 66, MIT 33

BABSON PARK, Mass. — Babson College held the visiting Massachusetts Institute of Technology to just 33 points on 21.4 percent shooting, as the Beavers recorded a 66-33 victory over the Engineers in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s basketball contest on Tuesday night. It was the seventh straight win for Babson, which improved to 16-8 overall and 11-1 in the conference, while MIT dropped to 4-18 overall and 0-12 in the NEWMAC.

Babson dominated the game from the start, using an 11-1 run midway through the first half to take a commanding 36-17 lead into the break. The Beavers then outscored the Engineers, 30-16, in the second half on their way to the 66-33 win. Senior Meredith Hellen (Somerville, Mass.) led all players with 17 points, while first-year Caitlin Fenn (Niantic, Conn.) added 14 points and two blocked shots off the bench. Senior tri-captain Erin Conroy (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and first-year Linsey Poulson (Leominster, Mass.) each added eight points in the win for the Beavers, who will now face Mount Holyoke this Saturday at 1 p.m. in a battle for the NEWMAC regular season championship.

MIT was led by sophomore Cherelle Walls (Memphis, Tenn.) and junior Karen Kinnaman (Woodstock, N.Y.), who each scored seven points, and sophomore Christa Margossian (Revere, Mass.), who added six points and seven rebounds. The Engineers hit only 12 of 56 from the field, while Babson shot 46.0 percent (29-for-63) from the floor.
