SPOKANE, Wash. — One losing streak ended and another continued tonight night as the Whitworth Pirates blitzed Pacific Lutheran, 75-50, in a Northwest Conference men's basketball game played at the Whitworth
Fieldhouse.

The victorious Pirates improved to 9-11 for the season and 5-7 in the conference, while Pacific Lutheran dropped to 5-15 overall and 3-8 in the league.

Whitworth came into the game with a mini three-game loss skid. Pacific Lutheran, which dropped its seventh consecutive game, proved to be the remedy as the Pirates never trailed following a three-point basket by Lance Pecht to open the scoring 1:15 into the game.

The Pirates built a 20-point lead with 8:19 left in the first half and took a 37-18 margin into the halftime intermission. The hosts kept up the intensity in the second period, leading by as much as 29 points on several occasions.

Jon Young led Whitworth in scoring with 19 points, including six three-point baskets. Pecht added 18 points for the Pirates. Whitworth shot 51 percent from the field (27-of-53), including 12-of-26 from beyond the three-point line. Pacific Lutheran had 11 players score in the game, led by eight points from freshman guard Andrew Mehalechko.
