Salve Regina 71, University of New England 47

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Junior Matt Coute (Somerset, Mass.) poured in 28 points to help Salve Regina University raise its Commonwealth Coast Conference record to 11-3 with a 71-47 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in men's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

Coute tallied 22 of his game-high 28 points in the opening half as the Seahawks built a 35-24 advantage. He converted 9 of 13 field goal attempts in the period, including all three of his 3-point field goal tries.

The Seahawks (14-8 overall) took their largest lead (52-33) of the contest on a basket by sophomore Jon Hazzard (North Kingstown, R.I.) with 8:44 left to play.

Senior Chris Collier (Exeter, N.H.) had 15 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots for the winners, while Hazzard finished with 11 points, seven boards, three steals and a pair of blocks.

Salve Regina shot 50.9 percent (29 of 57) on the day, and held a 42-29 rebounding advantage.

First-year forward Isaac Stickney (Rumford, Maine) had 10 points for the Nor'easters, who lost their fifth straight to drop to 6-15 overall, 2-11 in conference play.

The Seahawks travel to Bristol, R.I. on Tuesday to take on Roger Williams University, while the Nor'easters host Gordon College.
