Piedmont 100, Thomas More 79

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky — Sophomore center E.J. Haynes recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds. However, Thomas More lost to Piedmont Saturday at Connor Convocation Center, 100-79.

Unfortunately, this wasn't one of those times when the sequel was better than the first one either for the Saints. Thomas More defeated Piedmont six days ago in Demorest, GA, 117-104.

Like in the first match-up, the Lions raced out to a quick lead. Thomas More trailed by 13, 17-4, just five minutes into the contest. While the intensity was visible in the Saints' effort, it wasn't as evident in the results. They were able to trim the lead down to single digits on several occasions, but at the half, Piedmont led, 48-34.

Thomas More continued to battle in the second half, but they could never get the lead down to single figures.

Junior Andrae Woodard finished the contest with 16 points, six rebounds and six assists, while classmate R.K. Thurman added 14 points and four boards.

Senior Chad Wachs added 10 points, 13 rebounds and a team-high three blocks.

The Saints (7-14) will return to action Wednesday for their final home game of the season when they host Fisk at 7 p.m. The game will be preceded by the women's game at 5 p.m. It will mark the final home game for Wachs and Ben Brown.
