The Regents’ E.J. Avery came off the bench and had a perfect night from the floor, hitting seven-of-seven field goals on his way to a game-high 18 points. Teammate Maurice Smith, who connected on six-for-12 from the field and five-of-eight from beyond the three-point line, was close behind with 17 points.
Avery and Smith shared high rebound honors with eight apiece.
Rounding out the sextet of players in double figures was R.J. Coffey (15 points), Maurice Lewers (14 points), Mike Jamerson (12 points) and Joel Carter (10 points). Coffey went three-of-six on treys, while Lewers was four-for-four from the free throw line and had a game-leading five assists.
Eureka had a pair of players in double figures. Clint Rabbe had 16 points off the Red Devils’ bench and Claye Vogelsang added 13. Rabbe and Vogelsang drained four and three, three-point baskets, respectively.
A.J. Ricahrd’s five rebounds led Eureka.
The Red Devils burst out of the gate to a 5-0 lead before Rockford took control for good at the 15:38 mark of the first half on Coffey’s trey. RC upped the first half lead to as much as 16 points, before settling on the 43-33 halftime cushion.
Eureka gave no more resistance in the second half, as RC’s advantage crept up to as much as 34 points (87-53) on Jamerson’s layup with 5:23 remaining.
