Potsdam Men Survive OT Scare Against Geneseo
Turner lifts Potsdam to OT
Potsdam, NY – The Potsdam Bears picked up another SUNYAC win, this time defeating Geneseo in OT by a final of 76-69. The Bears improve to 20-2 (11-2), while Geneseo falls to 9-13 (7-7).
The Bears took a 2 point lead into halftime, and seemed to trade baskets the rest of the way. Geneseo led by 3 with only 15 seconds remaining, but Jim Connelly (Cayuga/Union Springs) hit a jumper with 8 seconds remaining to bring it within 1. Geneseo’s Joe Zera (Buffalo/Canisius) hit 1-2 foul shots to extend the lead to 2, leaving 5 seconds showing. The ensuing possession resulted in a foul, sending Christian Turner (Central Square/PV Moore) to the line. Turner sunk both foul shots to send the game to OT. With 25 seconds left in OT, Junior Clayton (Albany/Manhattan College) hit a 3 pointer to catapult Potsdam to the win.
Leading the Bears in scoring was Clayton with 20 points, followed by Connelly with 15 and Turner with 12. Steve McDonnell (Fairport/Fairport) led Geneseo with 20 points followed by Zera with 16.
