Bridgewater State 72, Mitchell 57

NEW LONDON, Ct — Bridgewater State College junior David Rukstalis (Norwood, MA) scored 22 points and added 7 rebounds to lead the visiting Bears to a 72-57 win over Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut.

The Bears, winners of three straight, improve to 13-9 on the season, while Mitchell falls to 4-12.

Rukstalis connected on 9 of 13 field goals in the game, and 4 of his team high 7 rebounds came off the offensive glass. He also closed the gap on the heralded 1,000 point milestone as he now has 988 points in his career.

Senior point guard Brian Adamczyck (Chicopee, Ma) had a terrific all around game as he scored 8 points, dished out 8, assists (seven of which came in the first half), and also registered 5 steals. Fellow senior Peter Santos (Fairhaven, Ma) finished in double figures for the Bears with 11 points. He is now tenth on the Bears all time scoring list with 1,244 points.

Bridgewater led 35-22 at the half and were never seriously threatened the rest of the way as they played solid defense throughout, forcing 23 turnovers. The Bears registered 14 steals led by Admaczyck’s 5, while also blocking 3 shots.

Mitchell College freshman Foster Jamale led all scorers with 26 points. Jamale connected on 11 of 20 field goals, and recorded 4 assists and 4 steals.

The Bears will return to action next Tuesday, February 15th, as they travel to Worcester State College for a key Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game with the Lancers. Bridgewater is currently 6-3 in the MASCAC and tied for second in the conference standings.
