Lynchburg 103, Emory and Henry 87

For immediate release – 2/12/2005 - #185 — The Lynchburg College men’s basketball team defeated Emory & Henry College 103-87 Saturday to assure the program a spot in the 2004-05 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament next weekend. The 103 points scored on Senior Day represented the most posted by the Hornets since the 1996-97 campaign.

Lynchburg shot a season best 64 percent from the floor (39-61) while holding the visiting Wasps to just 33 percent from the field (29-89). LC led 55-44 at halftime and were ahead 71-67 with 11:12 left in the game. The Hornets used a 10-0 run, with four points each from Andy Albright (Hudson, OH/Hudson) and Todd Crown (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) to take a 14-point lead they would never relinquish.

Senior forward Ryan Pehanick (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) scored 24 points on eight of 12 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Albright posted 15 points (7-8 from the floor) and added seven assists and six rebounds. Sophomore forward Pat Prior (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) made all five of his field goal attempts and finished with 12 points – after sitting out the last 14 games due to injury. Junior forward David Sheaffer (Charlottesville, VA/Albemarle) scored 10 points, Kwame Safo (Vienna, VA/George C. Marshall) had nine, while Aaron Smith (Berryville, VA/Clarke County), Crown and Pete Manos, Jr. (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Avon Old Farms) each had eight points.

Korey Townsend had 23 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Emory & Henry (9-15/6-11 ODAC). Hank Luton scored 20 points, Lance Reasbeck tallied 13 and Davon Jones posted 10.

Lynchburg (11-13/8-9 ODAC) travels to Hampden-Sydney College Tuesday for another conference game at 7 p.m. The eight-team ODAC Tournament begins Saturday – seedings and game times will be announced later in the week.
