Elms 70, Wheelock 47

CHICOPEE, Ma. — Elms College junior forward Danielle Dugre (Holyoke, MA) registered her sixth double-double of the season with a team-high 20 points and 13 rebounds, and the Blazers won their sixth straight game with a convincing 70-47 win over Wheelock College in Saturday afternoon’s North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s basketball game at the Maguire Center.

With the win, Elms College improved to 10-11 overall, 9-6 NAC and secured a berth in the upcoming NAC Tournament. The Blazers’ current win streak is the longest since a nine-game streak late in the 2001-02 season.

Dugre poured in 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds, and freshman guard Michelle Fernandes (Danbury, CT) dropped in 10 points, including three 3-pointers in the opening half to spark the Blazers to a 42-26 lead at intermission.

Fernandes matched her collegiate career-high with 14 points and four 3-pointers, while freshman guard Raemarie Josefiak (Springfield, MA) added a collegiate career-high of her own with 15 points and nine rebounds as the other player to reach double figures for the Blazers in the victory.

Sophomore guard Samantha Cummings (Middleboro, MA) scored a game-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds for the Wildcats, who lost their fifth straight game to fall to 1-19 overall, 1-14 NAC.

Elms College returns to NAC play at Bay Path College on Tuesday, February 15. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
