Drahos plugged the middle, setting new career highs in points (40) and rebounds (19) en route to aiding his team to a 110-99 victory over the Westminster Titans Saturday in Hummel Field House.
Drahos scored 26 of game-best total in the second half. The Bison needed every pull out the win over the three-point shooting Titans (14-9, 4-4 PAC).
After Bethany went up by their largest margin of the game – 10 points – with 11:17 remaining in the game, Westminster went on a 16-5 run to regain the lead 79-78 with less than seven minutes left to go.
The Bison turned to Matt and Mike Drahos, who by themselves scored the next eight points of the game to take an 86-79 margin over Westminster with 5:17 left to go in the game. The team never trailed for the remainder of the contest.
Westminster’s defense allowed several players to have a big day for Bethany. As a team, the Bison shot 62.5 percent from the floor, and while twin Matt netted career highs, Mike Drahos earned 26 points and 11 rebounds. Jim Deep tossed in 15 points while Chris Stephens netted 13 for the Bison.
The Titans had six players score in double figures, led by Ed Pagley’s 19. Craig Hannon recorded 16 points for the Titans.
Up next for Bethany is a road contest against rival Waynesburg Wednesday. Tip-off for the contest is slated for 7:30 p.m.
