The Alfred University men’s basketball team had four players finish in double figures Saturday afternoon en route to a 77-57 win over visiting Elmira College. The win put the Saxons above .500 overall (12-11) and evened their conference record at 6-6.
After a slow start and a four-point deficit at halftime, AU erupted in the second half, outscoring Elmira, 41-17. The Saxons shot 47 percent from the field (52 percent second half) and converted 82 percent from the charity strike. They out-rebounded Elmira, 31-23, and forced 17 Soaring Eagle turnovers.
Sophomore center Dillon Stein (N. Huntington, PA/Norwin) led AU, picking up his second double double in as many games with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Chris Lemasters (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) hit four of six shots from behind the arc to finish with a team-high 16 points. He also recorded two steals and dished out six assists.
Other Saxons scoring in double figures were junior guard Quentin Bryant (Buffalo, NY/Seneca Vocational), who had 15 points off the bench, and sophomore forward Ryan Clemenson (Ovid, NY/South Seneca), finishing with 12 points (5-6 field goals) and five rebounds.
Sophomore guard Charles Henry (Southfield, MI/Brother Rice) and freshman guard Serge Clement (Astoria, NY/St. John’s Prep) each scored 10 points for Elmira, while senior forward Albert Davis (Sayre, PA/Sayre) grabbed eight rebounds.
The Saxons will be in action next on Friday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m., at Utica College.
