Trinity (19-2, 10-1) led 32-23 at the half, as both teams shot less than 40% from the field. Hendrix improved to 43.3% in the second half, and despite cooling off to under 30% shooting, the Tigers still pulled off the win.
The Tigers jumped on top early with a 16-2 run to start the game, but the Warriors slowly crawled back into the game with a 19-8 run that lasted nearly 10 minutes, and made it a three-point margin (24-21). Trinity scored eight unanswered to push the lead back to double figures, but a layup in the final seconds put it at nine points at the break.
Trinity held a lead anywhere from nine to 11 points for almost all of the first 10 minutes of the second half, but Hendrix began to make a dent with less than nine minutes to play. With 5:14 left, a three-pointer from the Warriors made it a 59-57 game, and it was still a one-possession game (62-59) with 1:15 to go. Jenna Smith's jumper pushed the lead back to five points, and then Smith also got a rebound on the ensuing miss by Hendrix.
With 23 seconds left, Smith went to the line for two shots. She missed both, but pulled in her own miss on the second to keep possession. Amy Howe hit the final four free throws to seal the game for the Tigers.
Tara Rohde turned in another dominating performance on Friday, scoring 19 points and grabbing a career-best 14 rebounds - both game highs. Rohde hit 5-9 from the field and 9-11 from the foul line, and grabbed seven offensive boards.
Lauren Andrews was fairly close to a triple-double as she finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds, as well as six steals and five assists in the game. Amy Howe added 10 points for the Tigers, while Smith chipped in with eight points and eight boards to go with five assists and three steals.
Erin McKenzie led the Warriors with 15 points and six rebounds, while Hannah Ketter hit 3-5 threes to finish with 11 points. Tori Huggins recorded five steals and dished out four assists, as well as scoring eight points.
Trinity will face Rhodes on Sunday afternoon in a rematch against the only SCAC team to defeat the Tigers this season. Rhodes will be trying to rebound after losing to Southwestern in Georgetown tonight.
