Four players finished in double-digits for Amherst, with Andrew Schiel 05 (Wayne, Pa.) scoring 28 and grabbing a team-high five rebounds. John Bedford 06 (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored 15 points; John Casnocha 06 (San Francisco, Calif.) had 13; Russell Lee 05 (Lorton, Va.) finished with 12.
Trailing 42-26 at halftime, Bates pulled within seven three times in the second half. Amherst, however, went on a 15-4 run in the final five minutes.
Rob Stockwell 07 (Temple, N.H.) led Bates with a team-high 16 points and six boards. Elliott Linsley 05 (Murrieta, Calif.) scored 12 with a game-high seven rebounds; he also had four blocks and three steals. Brian Gerrity 05 (Augusta, Maine) finished with 11 points.
The Bobcats are 16-7 and 5-3 in NESCAC.
Bates will host Trinity tomorrow at 3 p.m.; Amherst travels to Tufts for a 3 p.m. start.
