Alfred 68, Ithaca 62

ALFRED, NY —
Junior guard Quentin Bryant (Buffalo, NY/Seneca Vocational) came off the bench to lead the Alfred University men’s basketball team to a 68-62 win over conference rival, Ithaca College, Friday night at the McLane Center. The Saxons improved to 11-11 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

After going into halftime with a 29-23 advantage, the Saxons struggled to get started in the second half with several lead changes. A strong shooting performance (45 percent from the floor) and timely free throw shooting helped AU to secure the conference win.

Bryant shot 56 percent (9-16) from the floor to finish with 24 points and grabbed six rebounds. He also made four-of-four free throws down the stretch to seal the deal for the Saxons.

Sophomore center Dillon Stein (N. Huntington, PA/Norwin) couldn’t be stopped under the basket, posting a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Junior forward Ryan Hallett (Caledonia, NY/Caledonia-Mumford) finished with 11 points and grabbed five boards.

Junior guard Chris Lemasters (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) finished with eight points and a team-high four assists, while sophomore forward Ryan Clemenson (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds.

Junior guard Jonathan Whetstone (Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto) had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Ithaca (10-10, 6-4 Empire 8), while senior guard Jesse Roth (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and junior guard Jim Bellis (Bloomfield, NY/Bloomfield) finished with 12 points apiece.

The Saxons will play their final home game of the regular season Saturday at 4 p.m., against Elmira College.
