Daniel Webster 84, Suffolk 74

BOSTON — Despite leading by as many as 14 points in the first half, the Suffolk University Rams lost to visiting Daniel Webster College 84-74 Thursday night at Regan Gymnasium.

The Rams had a 14-point lead with 4:14 remaining in the first half before Daniel Webster closed the half with a 14-0 run to tie the score at 37. Eagles freshman Adam Duplisea (Hermon, ME) scored eight points during the run, including two three-pointers. Duplisea finished the game with 12 points and seven rebounds, and was one of six Eagles to score in double figures.

The Rams stayed close in the first eight minutes of the second half, forcing three ties before finally succumbing to the Eagles’ potent offense. The Rams out-rebounded the Eagles 43-36 and forced 12 Daniel Webster turnovers, but Suffolk was not able to stop the visiting team’s offensive outpouring.

Daniel Webster had a 16-point lead with 3:39 remaining in the game until a late Suffolk run cut the Eagles’ lead to 10 at 75-65. Daniel Webster fought back and pulled away on a series of baskets by senior Kenny Ouellette (Windham, NH). Ouellette had 11 points and nine rebounds in the game.

Suffolk ended strong, as senior co-captain Chris Emma (Braintree, MA) scored five points in the final 1:22 to close the gap to 83-72. Emma finished the game with a team-high 16 points and four assists, joining four other Rams scoring in double figures.

Suffolk junior Josh Morelock (Poplar Grove, IL) scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the blue and gold. Junior Peter Thompson (Braintree, MA) scored 11 points and had nine rebounds for the Rams.

Daniel Webster freshman Danny Ford (Exeter, NH) had a game-high 19 points, while freshman J.J. Oliver (Milton, VT) contributed 16 points to the winning side.

Suffolk falls to 7-14 on the season and 5-9 in the GNAC while Daniel Webster improves to 3-18 and 2-13 in the GNAC. Suffolk will take on Emmanuel College at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Regan Gymnasium.
