Fitchburg State 83, Newbury 73

Brookline, MA — Rashad Cope paced five different Fitchburg State players in double figures as the Falcons went on the road and defeated Newbury 83-73 in non-conference men’s basketball action Thursday. FSC improved to 5-16 with the victory while the Nighthawks dropped to 2-18 overall.

Cope tallied 19 points as he reached double digits for the 17th time this season and the 39th time in 45 games over the past two years. He was 8 of 13 from the floor while bouncing back after being held scoreless in last Saturday’s game at Salem State.

The Nighthawks were led by freshmen Walky Magloire who topped all scorers with 26 points and Archie Mitchell who chipped in with 22 points. Junior Matthew Stanton was also impressive registering 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday when they host Westfield in a key MASCAC battle. Newbury will entertain Wheaton on Saturday afternoon.
