Senior guard Daryl Moore saw a lay up drop with 6:51 to go in the first half that gave Thiel a 10-point edge (28-18). Westminster responded with a 17-2 run over the next 3:04 to grab a 35-30 lead. Nick DiNatale knocked down three three-pointers during the surge.
The Tomcats battled back by outscoring the Titans 13-6 over the final 3:47 of the first period and went into the break with a 43-41 lead.
The Tomcats got off to a quick start in the second, outscoring Westminster 12-2 over the opening 1:34 to pull ahead by 12 (55-43). After stretching its lead to as many as 16 (83-67) midway through the half, Westminster battled back with a 24-8 surge to pull even at 91-91 with 2:45 to go.
A pair of Brian Fadden free throws upped the Titan lead to four (95-91) with 40 seconds to play before freshman guard Ross Watson jammed one home to trim the lead to two (95-93) with just over 30 seconds to play.
Craig Hannon hit a pair of free throws with 23 seconds showing to push the Titan lead back to four (97-94) before Moore knocked down a triple to trim the lead to one (97-96) with 10 seconds showing.
A pair of Chris Hatch free throws pushed Westminster back in front by three (99-96) before Herrmann buried a three with two seconds remaining to send the game into overtime tied at 99-99.
Thiel pushed its lead to six (109-103) on a lay up by junior forward Stephen Laird with 3:08 to play in overtime. Ed Pagley gave Westminster its only lead of the overtime period with 1:19 to go, putting the Titans up 11-4113 with his lay up.
Moore went to the charity stripe and buried four-straight down the stretch to seal the win for Thiel, their first conference victory of the season.
The Tomcats shot a season-high 62.7 percent (52-83) from the field while their 119 points are the third-most in a single game in program history.
Herrmann tied the school record for most field goals in one game with 21 and his 44 points are the third-most tallied in a single game in program records. He was 21-of-27 from the floor while grabbing 12 rebounds and dishing out five assists.
Moore finished with 26 points, eight assists and seven rebounds while sophomore guard Brad Bowman had 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
DiNatale finished with 24 points for the Titans, knocking down eight-of-13 three-point attempts. Pagley totaled 23 points on eight-of-20 shooting.
Thiel (5-17, 1-6) returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they travel to PAC rival Waynesburg College. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
