With their sixth win in the last seven games, the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-8 overall and 12-4 in the conference. Randolph-Macon is currently in first place in the ODAC standings, with two regular season games remaining. The Royals dropped to 11-11 on the season and 7-9 in the ODAC.
It was “Senior Night” for the Yellow Jackets, and forward Geoff Gunther (Waynesboro, VA/Waynesboro), point guard Justin Moyer (Landisville, PA/Hempfield), and guard Brandon Scott (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) were all honored before the game.
Eastern Mennonite opened the game with a two-point basket by junior guard Dustin Galyon (Sterling, KS/Sterling). That was the only lead the Royals would have. A layup by Randolph-Macon sophomore forward Philip Hawley (Weirton, WV/Tri-State Christian Academy) tied the score at 2-2. Another layup for the Yellow Jackets, by sophomore guard Loren Sisson (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry Collegiate), made the score 4-2, and the hosts would not trail again. In the first half, Randolph-Macon’s biggest lead was 25 points twice close to halftime. The Yellow Jackets were ahead by 21 points at the break, 46-25.
The second half was more of the same, as the lead was never below 20 points. The biggest advantage for the Yellow Jackets was 34 points several times in the last four minutes.
Following the performances by Wansley and Gill, Randolph-Macon’s Moyer finished with nine points and a game-high seven assists. Foelber made 3-of-4 (75.0%) field goals, while Hawley shot 4-for-6 (66.7%) from the floor. All 16 Yellow Jacket players saw action in the game.
