Lawrence improved to 16-4 and 11-3 in the MWC. The Vikings need only to win one of their final two games to take the league title outright.
This marks the first time in school history Lawrence has won back-to-back championships in men's basketball. The Vikings won last year's title and went on to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament. This was the fifth championship in school history and the third since 1997.
The Vikings had a balanced attack, as 12 players scored. Chris Braier led Lawrence with 16 points and nine rebounds. Brendan Falls added 11 points and Dan Evans had nine points and five assists.
Jason Holinbeck scored eight points for Lawrence and is now 10 shy of 1,000.
Josh Hinz paced Beloit with 18 points, but the junior All-American didn't score his first points until 2:51 was left in the first half. He didn't score again until there was 8:08 left in the game, and got the bulk of his points when the Vikings were in control.
Danny Towns added 17 points for Beloit, and Nick Hendry had 13.
Beloit (8-13, 5-9 MWC) bolted to an early 18-12 lead, but the Vikings scored the next 10 points to take a 22-18 advantage.
After Matt Fieck's three-point play trimmed the margin to 22-21, the Vikings finished the half with a 15-8 run to lead 37-29 at the break.
Lawrence put the game away midway through the second half. With Lawrence's reserves in the game, the Vikings went on a 7-0 run with Ben Rosenblatt, Brett Sjoberg and Kyle MacGillis all picking up baskets in that stretch.
The Vikings led 60-43 with 10:06 left and Beloit never got closer than 11 points after that.
