KING'S MEN'S BASKETBALL REMAINS ATOP FREEDOM CONFERENCE WITH 69-46 WIN OVER LYCOMING
WILKES-BARRE -- When the King's College men's basketball team retained sole possession of first-place in the Freedom Conference as the Monarchs posted an important 69-46 victory over visiting Lycoming College Wednesday at Betzler Fields.
King's, which swept the season series from the Warriors, improved to 18-4 overall and 9-2 in conference play. Lycoming slipped to 15-7 and 6-5 in league play. The win was also the first for the Monarchs as the top-ranked team in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The latest regional rankings were released Wednesday afternoon.
King's built a 33-24 half-time lead but took advantage of the Warriors cold shooting in the second stanza as the Monarchs outscored the visitors 36-22 over the game's final 20 minutes.
The Monarchs received another balanced scoring effort as Marty O'Hora topped the squad with 14 points and eight rebounds. Freshman John Soboleski also posted a career-high of 14 points with five boards off the bench. Landon Gabriel netted 13 points, including three three-pointers, while distributing five assists.
Thomas Moore contributed 10 points while Brian Horgan totaled seven points, five rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Jim Welsh chipped in with six points.
The Warriors struggled mightily from the field, connecting on just 29.3 (17-58) percent of its shots from the field and were 5-of-22 from three-point range.
Jonathan Pribble topped Lycoming with 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting while adding nine rebounds. Shaun Morris added nine points while Kevin Morris chipped in with seven.
King's will next host Drew University Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
